This interview is part of the series of research interviews on the education crisis and how we can solve it. If you want to hear the other experts, please see our education thesis.

Raya Bidshahri went through the traditional education system and found it to be more than lack luster. She felt the purpose of education should be to equip learners with the competencies and mindsets that allow them to imagine, design and create an exciting future for themselves and humanity at large.

The problem was the system was not designed to due this. It was rampant with problems like emphasis on grades, lack of personalization, passive learning, lack of preparing students for uncertainty, and no emphasis on happiness or personal fulfillment.

So she first created the Awecademy to create sense of awe and wonder in students, which transformed into an award-winning organization that offers future-focussed and wisdom-based education.

But she knew only having supplementary high courses were not enough to truly change the system. She would have to create a new school that would be a model for others of what education could be.

Which led her to founding the School of Humanity.

School of Humanity's mission is to reinvent our global education system in order to better serve humanity. They see education as a tool to tackle the root causes of global issues. They develop curriculum and learning experiences that empower learners to live a meaningful life, and tackle global challenges.
